What is something you’re proud of this year?
I am proud of making it to the end of my undergraduate career this year. I am proud that I overcame the obstacles that stood in my way given my background, given that I matriculated as a first-generation, low-income (FGLI) student at Rice. I remember receiving my decision letter from Rice in 2020 and not being able to imagine what college life would be like and whether I would make it to the end. But I did it! Congrats, class of 2024.
What advice would you give to your freshman self?
The advice I would give to my freshman self is to take the time to explore the diverse programs and resources that Rice has to offer, because, as long as it may seem at first, four years is not a long time to figure yourself out. And even then, you don't have to figure yourself out. Have fun and try your best.
How have you utilized the SSI office this year? How has SSI been beneficial for you this year?
I attended weekly meetings with my SSI advisor this past academic year, and it has been extremely helpful on an academic and personal front. SSI has served as a immensely supportive resource for me as a student and as a young adult in terms of maintaining my organizational and time management skills, among other critical academic and interpersonal skills.
Any advice for other students?
Please utilize as many resources Rice offers as possible, because you won't have them for very long! There are so many cool and helpful resources that Rice offers that you would be surprised by what ways Rice supports its students.
