Moody Opportunity Fund FAQs

We have compiled some commonly asked questions and answers to give you more information about the Moody Opportunity Fund Process.

If you have questions that you cannot find the answers to, please email us at success@rice.edu.

Who is eligible to apply for financial support?

Any currently enrolled, domestic, or international undergraduate student is eligible to apply and be considered Moody Opportunity Funding

What if I need funding for something that is not listed?

We are hopeful students will be creative and original in their pursuits. Therefore, this general list of ideas is incomplete and is meant to guide our students when determining where to seek support for their ideas, programs, projects, and events.

Will I receive the entire amount of funding that I request?

Undergraduate students could receive 100% of their request, a partial amount, or none of their request.

I have a question about the application process. How can I get answers?

Questions related to the Moody Opportunity Fund should be e-mailed to success@rice.edu with the subject line of MOF Question

Is there a limit to how many times I can request support from the Moody Opportunity Fund?

No, there is no limit to the number of requests an undergraduate student can submit. It is important to note that funds are limited, and the goal of the Moody Opportunity is to enrich the student's undergraduate experience.

What happens after I receive notification of funding?

Once students receive their MOF-approved funding decision, they must follow up within 3 business days to complete the follow-up outlined in the decision email to keep their request active. In most cases, SSI will pay the costs associated with the request directly to the vendor. If the request cannot be paid by SSI directly, funds will be disbursed to the student and the student will be required to submit receipts to ensure the funds were used for the approved request.

Funded requests do not transition into the next semester. Failure to follow up within the window could result in funding being revoked. If you miss your follow-up timeframe, contact us immediately at success@rice.edu.

What if my request is urgent?

The Moody Opportunity Fund is not meant to fund emergency or urgent requests. If you have a more immediate financial need, please visit the Access and Opportunity Portal website at aop.rice.edu.
