Why did you want to become a FLI Ambassador? As FLI Ambassador, I have the incredible opportunity to help plan and execute events to better engage other FLI students. In the same vein, I can connect with other students and contribute to their positive experiences on campus! Being in this position is meaningful for me as I have always loved helping facilitate community and affinity events that bring people together.
What does FGLI mean to you? FGLI to me means that I have an incredible support system at home that wants to see me achieve a better life for myself. It means that I am incredibly hardworking and grateful for all the opportunities I have to learn more and expand my skillsets.
What is one challenge that you've experienced as a FLI student and how did you overcome it? I've faced the daunting anticipation for my financial aid package quite literally every year. I have learned that the staff at the financial aid office want to assist you and reduce your stress, so I have been proactive in communicating with them!
What are you involved in outside of being a FLI Ambassador? I am a student assistant at the Department of Kinesiology. I am also involved in Rice VSA (Vietnamese Student Association) where I am one of the event coordinators and a dance director!
What's been your favorite class so far? Anthropologies of Nature with Professor Cymene Howe. For my final project, I wrote and filmed a music video that I got to play for the class! This class opened my eyes to what nature is and how we interact with it daily.
A piece of advice for FLI students: Take advantage of all the opportunities that come your way, but remember to ask yourself, "Will saying yes to this opportunity make me happier? Is it what I really want?"
