Cynthia Alejandre is a graduate of the Rice's class of 2014 with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. This is her second summer as a RESP coach. As an undergraduate, she helped students achieve their own goals through her work as a TA in organic chemistry, Peer Academic Advisor, and Academic Fellow at Lovett College. The loves of her life include chocolate, football (go Texans!), and the students she mentors through the Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees (PAIR). This fall, she will return to her alma mater, North Shore Senior High School in Houston, as a chemistry teacher where she hopes to create an intensive college preparatory program for students in her home community.
Seth Davis hails from Omaha, Nebraska, where he is remembered fondly for his dashing looks and well-timed puns. A rising senior at Rice, Seth is an integral figure in the Hanszen College underground counterculture. You can usually find Seth somewhere with a chalkboard doing a lot of math or a lot of physics. If you get him to take a break, he will probably try to convince you to either join the physics student society that he is co-president of or accompany him to Chipotle. He is extremely excited to meet you guys, talk some physics, and learn how to be a great teacher.
Michaela Dimoff is a junior Bioengineering student from Greensboro, North Carolina and Will Rice college. She worked with RESP in summer 2013 as an engineering design TA. Michaela is passionate about engineering design, and she is almost finished with a yearlong project of building a wheelchair for a disabled teenager. On any given day, you can find Michaela baking cookie bars in the Will Rice commons kitchen, machining wheelchair parts in the OEDK machine shop, or cruising around campus on her longboard.
Jarvis Miller is a rising Junior at Sid Richardson college studying Mathematics and Statistics. He is from Houston and was actually one of the students in the inaugural RESP group. He LOVEs reading Manga (just taught a student taught course about Manga this past semester), eating burgers, and small DIY projects. But more importantly, he is very excited to meet each and every one of you! He loves meeting new people and going through crazy bonding experiences and loves teaching and mentoring so RESP is the perfect package for him! However, he is very sure that RESP will also be the perfect package for you as you make new friends and learn all that Rice and Houston has to offer you for the next four years.
Fernando Ramirez is a graduating senior at Duncan College majoring in Computational and Applied Mathematics. Born in Waco, TX, he lived there his whole life before coming to Rice, graduating from Waco High School. He started tutoring his peers in Calculus when he was in high school and last year worked as a Physics101/102 tutor for RESP. His academic background includes all basic math and science courses, some taken at Rice, others taken AP in high school. Apart from tutoring he is also the president for Rice’s Habitat for Humanity chapter and enjoy learning about technology in my free time. After graduation he wants to work for a tech company that tackles problems in either the healthcare or education sector.
