Tell us about yourself!
Hello! My name is Angela An and I am a senior at Hanszen College, majoring in English. On campus, I've been involved with The Rice Review, KTRU, as well as served as Hanszen's President. I'm originally from Dallas, TX, and in my free time, I enjoy pilates, crosswords, Letterboxd, and reading!
Why did you decide to become an O-Week Student Director?
I decided to serve as a Student Director because I wanted to give back to the position that means so much to me. Being an O-Week Coord has helped me grow and learn so much about myself, and without it, I'm unsure if I would've been able to have the experiences I have had in my Rice career. I hope through this position, I will be able to not only get to know this new cohort of O-Week Coords, but I hope to be able to be a guide in their journey as they grow and learn and have as much impact as my mentors had when I was in their shoes two years ago.
What is your favorite O-Week memory?
My favorite O-Week moment was O-Week 2024 Rice Rally. It's chaotic and I was stressed, but I remember looking over at my friend who also was coordinating in the same cohort as me, and amidst the chaos, we would just smile and laugh as we were helping with running this event. At the end, we gave each other a huge hug because it was finally over and we could take a breath. Sharing these otherwise stressful moments with my fellow coords (who are now some of my closest friends) are the memories I cherish most from O-Week.
What are you looking forward to most about being a Student Director?
I'm looking forward to getting to know this cohort of O-Week Coords and see what new ideas and visions they have for O-Week 2026!
