Why did you want to become a FLI Ambassador? One of the main reasons I wanted to become a FLI ambassador is because I am passionate about connecting with and supporting students who share similar backgrounds as mine. I want to be a resource for students to find a community where they feel comfortable, build meaningful friendships and relationships, and provide them with the emotional support needed to succeed and persevere in their academic and personal lives. I want them to know they have a place at Rice where they can be themselves and know they are not alone at such a prestigious and intimidating university, like Rice. We are happy to welcome you! (:
What does FGLI mean to you? Being FGLI means I have just as much right to be here as anyone else, which gives me strength, courage, and determination. As a result, our students have every right to be here as well.
What is one challenge that you've experienced as a FGLI student and how did you overcome it?As a FGLI student, one challenge I've faced is stepping out of my comfort zone to advocate for myself and seek out resources. Thankfully, the support from the Student Success Initiatives office has been incredibly helpful in this process.
What are you involved in outside of being a FLI Ambassador? Outside of being a FLI Ambassador, I am an active member of the Hispanic Association (HACER) on campus, work as an undergraduate research assistant in an industrial-organizational psychology lab, serve as a campus tour guide, peer research ambassador, and enjoy hanging out with friends!
What's been your favorite class so far? My favorite class so far is Developmental Psychology with Dr. Westmoreland! She’s amazing, deeply cares for her students, and is extremely intelligent.
A piece of advice for FGLI students: Advice for FGLI students: 1. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. 2. You can and you will!
