Why did you want to become a FLI Ambassador? I wanted to become a FLI ambassador to meet more people who have shared similar experiences as me and contribute to a welcoming community for all FLI students on campus. I want to make sure each FLI student has the opportunity to have a great time at Rice and find their people!
What does FGLI mean to you? To me, being FGLI means making the most of my college experience despite the challenges I’ve faced and taking pride in both the obstacles and triumphs along the way. Being FGLI at Rice gives me the opportunity to contribute to a more inclusive campus community while empowering and uplifting other FGLI students to thrive.
What is one challenge you've faced as a FGLI student and how did you overcome it? One challenge I’ve faced as a FGLI student is the feeling of imposter syndrome, questioning whether I truly belong at Rice. To overcome this, I’ve sought support from fellow FGLI students, made an effort to build connections within my residential college and campus organizations, and reminded myself that my achievements and hard work are what earned me a place here.
What are you involved in outside of being a FLI Ambassador? Outside of being a FLI Ambassador, I am Merchandise Creative Lead for Rice Design and I have played viola in the Campanile Orchestra and Chamber Music Club!
What's been your favorite class so far? Last semester I took Beginning Drawing (ARTS225) with Saran Alderson! The class brought out the best artist in myself and helped me solidify my skills in drawing.
A piece of advice for FGLI students: My biggest piece of advice for FGLI students is to take advantage of all the resources Rice has to offer and to not be afraid to ask for help!
