- 3 words your closest friend would use to describe you? Witty, empathetic, passionate

- Why did you want to become a FLI ambassador? As a person from multiple minority groups, I've always struggled to feel like I belong at Rice. I applied to be a FLI Ambassador for my second year in a row because I know how much of a difference it can make in someone's life to just know one person who is there to support them. 

- What do you enjoy the most about being a FLI ambassador? I love having the privilege of getting to meet the sweetest, most down-to-earth people at our campus, and getting to plan events I know they'll enjoy.  

- What does it mean to you to be a FLI student? Being first-generation/low-income at Rice is a testament to our resilience as a community. Despite not having enjoyed the same privileges as our peers, we earned our place at this university, and we prove it every day in the classroom and positions of leadership. 

- What challenges did you face in your freshman year and how did you overcome them? During my freshman year, my college didn't have a building, and people from my college were scattered across the north colleges. Also, I was away from my parents and it was really difficult to make friends with all the COVID restrictions in place. One of the best things I did for myself was join different GroupMes (HACER, Pride, etc.) to stay in touch with people like me during this global hardship. 

- What other student organizations or initiatives are you involved in at Rice? This year, I am co-head for both the Faculty Diversity and O-Week subcommittees in the Student Association's Diversity and Inclusion Committee. I'm also External Vice President of Rice Wildlife Conservation Club. Outside of my leadership roles, I'm involved in some CCL programs, like America Reads and Alternative Spring Break. 

- What's been your favorite class so far? This is a really tough question, but I have to say my Positive Psychology class is one of the best classes I've taken at Rice. I took it last semester, and Dr. Parson's insight on how to use psychology to magnify our happiness could not have come at a better time. Also, special shoutout to my Latinx TV/Film class and Profesor Kelly-Gonzalez, because that class has inspired me to add the LALX minor. 

- What do you do when you aren't in class? I like to read. I've barely read two books this year which is nowhere near my yearly goal of 40, but to be fair, I do have school, work, and all the other special things. I also love watching commentary Youtube videos or rewatching my favorite TV shows while making jewelry. 

- Any advice for other FLI students? Reach out! This applies in so many settings: in the classroom, reach out to your professors if you are struggling, or just if you want to build rapport with them. Reach out to people you think are funny or cool- they may become some of your closest friends. Lastly, reach out to your FLI Ambassadors (like me), to build your support system even more!
