What is something you’re proud of this year?
I decided to branch out and meet new people, deepening old connections and creating new ones, building better habits, and trying new things. It has not been easy, and there is still a lot of work for me to do; however, I am constantly discovering myself with every step I take forward.
What advice would you give to your freshman self?
Don’t be shy. You will speak your mind and maybe feel embarrassed or like no one cares. The reality is that you do have good ideas and you should share them, no matter who is listening. The more you speak, the more natural it will feel.
How have you utilized the SSI office this year? How has SSI been beneficial for you this year?
I have one-on-one appointments with an SSI advisor every two or so weeks. I find it helpful to talk with someone who is genuine and wants nothing more than my success. The conversations I have with my advisor feel personal, and they help me approach situations, even if they can feel difficult.
Any advice for other students?
Learn to say no. There are so many things you will be interested in and enjoy doing, but you have to be realistic with yourself and learn when it is too much. If you are intentional with how you spend your time, you will feel more rewarded at the end.
