What is something you’re proud of this year?

I am proud of being recipient of the Phil Layton Engineering Award of Excellence in the Arts, and winning First Prize in the Post-Mining UCD Humanities Institute 'Student Zine Competition.'

What advice would you give to your freshman self?

Honestly I think freshman-Saba did the best they could. But for the sake of this exercise, utilize your resources, follow your gut, and DO NOT BE AFRAID OF ADVOCATING FOR YOURSELF EVEN IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU KNOW NOTHING.

How have you utilized the SSI office this year? How has SSI been beneficial for you this year?

I have had weekly meetings with my advisor, and it has been so helpful and mind-expanding. It's a service that I am so happy exists here. The fact that simply having a person and a time every so often to look at my executive functioning and schoolwork and help me plan it all out has been so awesome.

Any advice for other students?

College is hard, and it is the first time you will have to advocate for yourself. If something feels wrong, ask someone about it. If they can't help you, keep asking around, ask if there is anyone else they know who you can speak to and advocate for what you need. This is your education. You are not a burden. Rice is giving you a service. Help them help you.
